I may not have the beach, but at least I have Beatenberg

With the dust having settled over Mangaung, spending the weekend in a newsroom has been pretty boring. I've been listening to a bit of Beatenberg, a sweet little pop band from Cape Town. They're making me wish that I was part of the mass of migrating Gautengers who are enjoying their holidays at the sea. I can't wait for the chance to haul out my summer dresses and slops and spend the day on the beach, slathering on sunscreen to avoid looking more and more like a lobster (alas, I wasn't blessed with the olive skin Greek genes). If you are sojourning at the sea, I do hope you are having a marvelous time. If you're stuck at home, listen to some Beatenberg and you'll feel like you're there in a minute. Promise.

Holiday in Instagrams

If you aren't the biggest fan of Instagram, you're really going to hate it (and me) after this post. I went down to Natal last week to visit my dear friend Marina. Here's a few of the Instagrams I snapped along the way. We spent our time in Durban, Kokstad, Margate and Port Shepstone. What fun. Made it so difficult to go back to uni today, especially when you wake up to a car's flat battery. Meh.

The sun setting over Durban on our first night.
Rain clouds cradling the city
The sun setting on the beach in Margate.
Passing all the man-made forests on the way to Port Shepstone.

On the way to Kokstad, a little town in the middle of nowhere.
Driving on the way back from Matat. Even smaller than Kokstad. Didn't think that was possible.

Macaroon time thanks to Gloria Jean's. Caramel and pecan nut flavour. Best.

Fortune cookie after a day spent at China Mall in Durban. Always interesting.

To Durban we shall go

Hello, I'm back in P-Town. Quite reluctantly, I have to admit. My little holiday was that great. I have  good news though, my little Charlie seems to be cooperating with me again. Good blog, keep it up.

Here's a few of the highlights of my trip. Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend too!

The beautiful scenery. I'm a sucker for pretty landscapes.

We hired bicycles and rode on the promenade till we got to Moyo, a cocktail lounge right by uShaka. This is probably one of my favourite things I did on this trip. I think it's time I invested in a bicycle. It really was pure bliss riding along the beach.

In Margate we had lunch at an incredibly popular restaurant called The Waffle House. Now I'm not usually a fan of waffles (I'm more of a pancake kinda gal) but the hummus and fried brinjal waffle I had just may have changed my mind.

I had my first macaroon at Gloria Jeans. Yes, you read correctly, my first. Unheard of in the blogging world, right? Does this officially make me a cool kid now? Nah, I didn't think so either.

On our last night in Durban we had dinner at Palki, a restaurant that serves the most delicious authentic Indian food. I had the Palak Paneer, which was what I imagine heaven to be. No, really. I would totally go back to Durban every fortnight just for this restaurant.

And lastly, in case you didn't already know...

Ok, so when are we on holiday again?
