Instagrams of the week

Best Local Breakout Artists of 2012

Another list to add to your list of highly subjective year-end lists.
Jeremy Loops

1. You can't help but feel genuinely happy when listening to Jeremy Loops and his magic loop pedal and guitar.
2. He's joined on stage by Jamie Faull and his saucy sax and Moteo Molecko spitting out powerful rhymes.
3. Mr Loops loves his fans, he really really does.

Matthew Mole

1) He wins Movember, hands down.
2. He's a tad goofy with his sometimes indecipherable sense of humour that comes through when he speaks to the audience.
3) You can see he really, really does love what he does.

Al Bairre

1) They're cool kids without trying to be, and without provoking me to punch them in the stomach.
2) You can download their EP,When I Was Tall, for free over here. It's highly addictive and has been playing on repeat on my computer, in my car and most of all, in my head since I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago.
3) They have lyrics like: "All I ever wanted was to be imaginary/ I would hide under my bed with the monsters that were scary."

The Dollfins

1) They're one of the few female-fronted bands in South Africa that actually kick ass.
2) You can download their debut album for free over here.
3) They have nicknames like Fuck You, Bear Trap and Pussy Slap.
4) They're all ridiculously good looking.
4) They really don't give a flying anything about what you or anybody else thinks about them.

Jeremy Loops- Power (Official video)

Jeremy Loops at Park Acoustics                                PHOTO: Christelle Duvenage

One of my favourite breakout artists of the year, Jeremy Loops, has released the music video for his track "Power". If you're in Jozi tonight and don't have any of those Christmas family obligations, catch Jeremy Loops at Tanz. Doors open at 9pm and entrance is R80.

Song of the day: "The Mojo Radio Gang" by Parov Stelar

Here's Parov Stelar's 'The Mojo Radio Gang'. You'll want to dance shamelessly to this, if your turkey-stuffed belly will allow you.

A very merry Christmas indeed

Elementary, my dear Watson

Wicked Clothes is an online shop that delivers to almost anywhere in the world. I came across these steampunk wind-up watches that they sell. Reminds you a bit of Sherlock Holmes, no? Is it too late to request one of these for Christmas? Pretty pretty please?
Visit the Wicked Clothes website here.

The art of negative space

Tang Yau Hoong is a self-taught illustrator from Malaysia. These are his illustrations that cleverly make use of negative space. "I love to play with negative space and illusion in my artwork. My illustrations are mostly conceptual, surreal and minimalist," he says on his website, which you should visit to see more of his work.

Dear Instagram

Dear Instagram,

You're easily my favourite app. You make me and scores of other people think that we can actually take nice photos. Please, please, please, come to your senses because I really don't want to have to delete you. In the meantime, here's some of my favourite photos I took with you lately.

De Tweedespruit may not have much, but they do have amazing sunsets.

Favourite person.

I love Joburg because of little things like this.

Irene Flea Market. I kept expecting Edward Cullen to fly through the trees with a pained looking Kristen Stewart on his back.

Hello again, Braamfontein.
