Arno Carstens has released a cover of AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" as the first single off his new solo album, Lightning Prevails. Carstens tones it down for his take on the classic rock 'n' roll track, a clever move that puts the focus on his gravelly voice which has a beautiful depth to it.
The song has also been covered by the likes of Marilyn Manson, Green Day, The Darkness, Pink and, strangely, Maroon 5. I'm guessing it was before Adam Levine acquired moves like Jagger and his Sexiest Man Alive title.

New video: Gangs of Ballet | Don't Let Me Go
Gangs of Ballet have released a new music video for their track "Don't Let Me Go". Sure to be a bit of a tearjerker, it tells the story of an elderly couple who go on a joyride.

New video: Bittereinder ft. Chris Chameleon | Kulkuns
Bittereinder released their music video for "Kulkuns", their track featuring Chris Chameleon and easily one of the best on their album, Die Dinkdansmasjien. The video was shot by Louis Minnaar, who, in an interview with Underground Press, explained how it's different to his previous work.
"The edit is less rhythmical and slower paced than what I normally do. I felt the performances were so strong that I almost wanted to not interrupt any of the main shots with cutaways and so forth. In the end that rarely happens when you enjoy the editing process as I do."

Introducing: San Cisco
Yesterday I discovered a fantastic band thanks to Texx and the City. I've been streaming their album obsessively and thought it would be a sin not to share their tunes with all of you.
So say hi to San Cisco, a delightful little indie band from Australia. They're releasing their self-titled debut album in the next week or so (for us South Africans, it's 15 July), so keep an eye out for it. Alternatively, head on over to Texx and the City and give it a listen to over there.
"Mr Mandela" re-released
Cape Town band Trenton and Free Radical have re-released their tribute track "Mr Mandela" in honour of Mandela Day which takes place on 18 July. This time round it features the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and the South African Youth Choir.
Best news is that the track has been made available to download for free from now until 6.7 days after Mandela Day. Afterwards, a portion of the proceeds go to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

The talented Hanro Havenga has put together this music video for "The Future", easily the most serious song you'll ever get out of Desmond & The Tutus.

Craig Durrant, who you might know him better as the drummer from Desmond and The Tutus, has released his debut music video as Yo Grapes. I was getting ready to chuck the next slow motion music into the overkill pile, but directors Tom Revington and Ying-Poi De Lacy make it work with this sweet video for "Humans of the Week".
Download all of Yo Grapes' tracks for mahala by visiting his Soundcloud page.

My favourites, (I have no qualms about saying that on my blog) Al Bairre, have released a music video for their track "We Move On". It's the perfect example of how to make a super cool video with a small budget. Food fight, anyone?
Also watch Al Bairre's Splashy Fen video. It's good laugh:

Bittereinder's video for "Die Dinkdansmasjien" was released this morning. It's a wonderful live video, which kind of looks like it has an Instagram filter on it. Here's what the electronic rap trio had to say about it:
Bittereinder lovingly dedicate this video to TUKS FM 107.2, Pretoria's finest radio station, who made this song #1 in February 2013 before anybody else even had it on a chart. All 3 of us grew up listening to TUKS FM: respect to Elvis Hitler, The Preacher, Stav, Jaco Smit amongst many others. Pretoria in ons hart.
No, Bittereinder in ons hart.

Jet Black Camaro have finally released another music video, and this time it's for "Pass it on John". It's a rather odd one that follows the day of car mechanics. Take a look!

Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga do "The Lady Is a Tramp"
Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga have done a rendition of "The Lady Is a Tramp", a popular show tune from musical Babes in Arms. I love that it reveals another side to Gaga and showcases her beautiful voice that doesn't always come through in her pop-laden songs.

Haezer ft. Tumi Molekane- Troublemaker (Official video)
Hundreds of sweaty electroheads crammed into Arcade Empire for the release of Haezer's 'Troublemaker' video on Friday night. Tumi Molekane lends his distinctive rhymes to the track, which tells the story of four badass kids from Khayelitsha with superpowers that they use to wreak havoc in the township. Good news is that the video was officially released today for everyone to see. Have a look, it really is impeccable.

Moving House- Tongue in Cheek (Official Video)
Andre Gideon Montgomery Pienaar (Ashtray Electric) and Rob Davidson (ex Zebra & Giraffe and Blind Watchmen) of Moving House released both their album and their debut music video today.
According to the band's Facebook page, "The two overcame the barriers of staying on opposite sides of the country by constantly having to buy more bandwidth to fuel the process of writing over the internet, and by using every open minute on tour to construct and record all the parts."
Download the album off iTunes here.

"Troublemaker" almost here
South Africa's electronic dance sensation, Haezer, is launching his debut music video for 'Troublemaker', a track off his EP, The Wrong Kid Died. The video is an afro-thriller set in Khayelitsha where four young children with destructive super powers wreak havoc on their town.
If the little teaser released a few days is anything to go by, it's sure to be a goodie.
'Troublemaker' will be released tomorrow night at Arcade Empire in Pretoria, and on Saturday night at Fiction Bar in Cape Town.
