An ode to Balthus

These subtly beautiful photos were taken by Japanese photographer Hisaji Hara. Hara has used his camera to recreate some of Polish-French artist Balthus's paintings in a way that is otherworldly and slightly sinister.

Keen to read more about Hara's work? Sean O'Hagan from The Guardian reviews the collection of photos here. Definitely worth a look.
