Black Swan

I was listening to the Black Swan soundtrack earlier. It's just as haunting as the movie was. I remember walking out of the cinema in a bit of a daze after watching it. Natalie Portman, however underfed in the movie, has to be one of my favourite actresses. Here's a shoot she did for Vogue at the beginning of the year. It's really beautiful, especially the picture of her dancing.

I also found these awesome Black Swan movie posters.

Save the date

Rain rain go away

I had huge plans for Halloween, kids. I had been looking forward to this block party in Jozi for weeks. And then it rained. It rained and rained and did not stop. So Amy and I decided to stay put in P-Town. Although the night did not go according to plan (at all), it was still a good one. Can the rain in P-Town just stop already though? My Grafro doesn't respond well to moisture. At all.
At least it didn't come down in buckets at Kings of Leon last night. I wasn't ever their hugest fan but after seeing them live,  I actually think they're pretty damn good. Especially Taper Jean Girl. Love that song.

You've grown, kid

Remember this little baba?

She's grown into a cute little fluff ball and now has a name- Roxy. She also has a brother, Bentley, but he couldn't sit still long enough for me to snap his picture. Naughty kid.

GQ's Best-Dressed Men 2011

Although Oscar Pistorius was crowned GQ's Best-Dressed Man of 2011, my personal favourite has to be Yaaseen Cader. A very stylish specimen indeed. I do hope the unwashed miscreants on campus are taking notes because quite frankly, their PT shorts and slops hurt my eyes.
Visit GQ's website to take a look at the other nominees.

Cereal Couture

Cereal and couture. Match made in heaven, no?
These chic cereal boxes were designed by The Glam Foodie, Tricia Clarke-Stone.
Probably a good thing they aren't real. Breakfast would become a very expensive occasion...

My Week With Marilyn: Update

Look what I found on the Vogue website. The brilliant Annie Leibovitz has done it again. Lady, you have mad skill. Can I borrow some? Please? (Can't promise I'll give it back though)

Still don't think that Michelle Williams can pull of Marilyn Monroe?

Hmmm... slightly more convinced.

Mister, you have a wild imagination

How cool are these pictures? They're by Turkish photographer, Murat Suyur (it's quite amazing what you can find on the interwebs when you are avoiding doing something).  I'm tempted to take a bite out of my keyboard to see if it's actually chocolate in disguise.

Here's the link to his website if you would like to see some more.

Boring weekend. Nice food.

As far as weekends go, this one has to have been one of the dullest. I've gone into a studying-induced hibernation and may only make an appearance after exams (I say 'may' because Halloween is around the corner and I'll use any excuse to dress up). At least delicious homemade food made this weekend a little bit better! This is a grilled eggplant, zucchini, haloumi and basil pesto stack. I'm not going to post the recipe because it's pretty easy to make. Just grill everything, stack 'em and voilà!

Something to do

Curious Cat

Simone is now Zinzi.
Named after the coolest literary heroine- Zinzi December (from Zoo City).
Just wasn't a Simone.
It happens.
She loves chasing the cursor on the computer.
Cute kid.

Holiday in pictures

I had a week off varsity, which was rather short but sweet. And busy. I went to the Wrestlerish album launch and the SA Fashion Week Pop Up Shop, celebrated my dad's birthday with my big fat Greek family, interned at the Pretoria News, saw One Day with Bridget, went to Amy's farm (sadly, no pictures) and saw the one and only Coldplay. No studying was done, which will make this week quite an interesting one. Let's do it!

Can Michelle pull off Marilyn?

Michelle Williams is portraying Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. There's no denying that she's beautiful but I'm a little sceptical as to whether she can be a sultry sex symbol like Marilyn was. I'm really looking forward to this film though, what with  Judie Dench, Emma Watson and Dominic Cooper completing the cast. Here's the trailer in the meantime!

Designing up a Storm

Storm Thorgerson is a graphic design god. Recognize these album covers? All his ingenious work, kids. He recently designed the cover of local band machineri's debut album. They have effectively joined a list of some of rock's upper crust. Nice, very nice.
