A really incredible cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit by Patti Smith. It incorporates a bit of her poetry as well. Enjoy!

"Your high fives are far too hard"
On Friday night, Desmond and The Tutus played at Arcade Empire. Holey moley, what a show. They don't play in P-Town very often so it's easy to forget just how much fun they are. It irritates me that they never get nominated for any awards. They're constantly overlooked so I'm going to dub them the band with the wildest dance moves in the local music industry. And the band with the most impressive amount of collective facial hair. Ha. Thanks for the jive, Desmond.
(You can catch my interview with the band in Perdeby on 27 February)

"Rollin' down the street, smokin' endo, sippin' on gin and juice"
Local musician, Gil Hockman, did this cover of Snoop Dogg's 'Gin and Juice'. Could they be any more different? I think not. I love Gil Hockman's voice though. I think I need to get my hands on his album pronto. Below is a video of Snoop's version so you can make a proper comparison.

"I shot a man down"
Today we're going back to the 50s with new kids on the block, Peachy Keen. The song is called 'I Shot a Man Down' and is the Cape Town-based rockabilly band's first single. I love the music video- reminds me a bit of Thelma and Louise. Brilliant.

Fancy some street style?
I've always wanted to include bit of street style on Are You Charlie? I think it's a lot more inspiring than seeing looks from the runway. It's all about how real people make clothes their own. For my very first street style post, this is my dear friend, Liandri. You can expect to see a lot more of her. She has a wardrobe I wouldn't mind raiding any day.
"Theme from Rocky, the theme from Speed, all end with me wishing I was Keanu Reeves"
I'm starting a new feature on my little blog. I' ll be posting a rad tune for you guys everyday. Easy as that.
The first song is by Shortstraw. It pays homage to the one and only Keanu Reeves. The nonsensical lyrics are hilarious. I like it when bands don't take themselves too seriously- it's refreshing. Thanks for the laugh, Shortstraw.

Good news for all you P-Towners. Shortstraw are gigging at Arcade Empire on 9 March along with Fulka and Wrestlerish.

Valentines Shmalentines
Some call it Valentine's Day. I call it Tuesday. I still like this card though. Forgive me for posting this picture without citing a source, I can't for the life of me find it and I really wanted to share it anyway.
In other news, I interviewed a couple of bands at the UP Beats Festival last week Friday. If you are keen to take a look, you can go here. I had the most amazing time and the best part is, I think I'm one step closer to finding out what I want to do with my life. Yay me.
